Lush Christmas Haul!

After gazing at these beauties on the Lush website and in other people's hauls for a few weeks, I decided a trip to Lush could be put off no longer. It is no secret that Lush is my ultimate weakness and while I wanted to buy everything in the new Christmas and Halloween range, I limited myself to these three.

The Magic Wand Bubble Bar on the far left of the picture has famous 'Snow Fairy' scent that a few of the Lush Christmas products have. It is a very sweet scent so probably isn't for everyone but I absolutely love it. I actually used this once before I remembered to take photos so it does look a little worn but, as you can see, one use hardly affected the size of it at all so I'm pretty confident you'd get a good few baths out of this one.

The Candy Mountain Bubble Bar in the middle of the photo has my favourite scent from Lush, the Creamy Candy scent. Like Snow Fairy it is more of a sweet scent but it's a little more toned down. I've not used this one yet but I've heard it not only creates bubbles but also turns your bath water pink and glittery, what more could you ask for?

Lastly we have The Sparkler Bath Bomb. This is part of their Halloween/Bonfire Night collection and I've been told it has different colours inside which is exciting! I was intrigued by this one when I saw it online because it's so different from all of the other Lush bath bombs but what really pulled me in was the smell. This one shares the Rose Jam scent which is just beautiful. If you like the smell of roses, I really would suggest picking this one up and having a sniff!

I'm sure this won't be the last of my purchases from the Lush Christmas range as there honestly was so much I could have happily bought.

Have you tried any of the new products from the Christmas range at Lush? Which ones and what did you think of them? Let me know in the comments.

R&B Hair Moisturiser from Lush

Yet again I'm here to talk to you about a product from Lush that I've fallen in love with. It is no secret that I love Lush Cosmetics, every product I've ever tried from them I have absolutely loved and I've tried a fair few! I went into the store to buy a solid shampoo bar and came out with this in hand as well after it was recommended to me by one of the girls working there. It's not one of the cheaper products Lush offer and I'll admit, I was a little reluctant to try it because of the price but it really does work wonders.

The girl in the store said she uses this on damp hair but I've found it works best on mine when dry so it must differ between different hair types. I have very dry hair that has a tendency to frizz and tries to curl but just doesn't so if that sounds like your hair, please, just trust me and try this.

I take a tiny bit (I mean tiny, a little goes a lot further than you initially think and any more will look like too much) and rub it between my fingers and then gently brush my fingers through the lengths and ends of my hair. I don't know how this magic stuff manages to do it, but it seems to get rid of all the frizz and encourage my hair to curl. Although it's still not massively curly because of my hair naturally, it definitely looks a lot neater and the curls are more defined with this.

The other major plus to this product is that it smells amazing. When I went to the hairdresser a few weeks ago both my hairdresser and the girl who washed my hair asked me what it was and said it smelled gorgeous. It's definitely the jasmine scent that stands out which means it works really well with the Godiva Solid Shampoo bar (which also has conditioner in it).

I really can't recommend this enough. It's definitely a staple for me from now on and is perfect for those of us who are trying to resist using heat on our hair to keep it healthy (or if you're just a little lazy like me).

Have you tried R&B or any of Lush's other hair treatments? Let me know what you thought in the comments!

My Hair Story - Hair Colours

So I thought I'd share something a little different with you today. I've mentioned before that the ends of my hair are very dry as a result of a lot of dying from the ages of about 12 to about 15, so I thought I'd share that whole journey with you. This is going to be a bit of a long post with a lot of photos so I'd suggest grabbing a cuppa before you continue! Ready? Okay, enjoy!

When I was very little I had very thick, dead straight, blonde hair as you can see from this photo (ignore the incredibly embarrassing photo it was the only one I could find). What I wouldn't give to have that back! Unfortunately my hair started turning darker from the age of about 9 and gradually started getting wavier with it. By the time I'd reached 11 I'd cut most of it off and it was wavy and a medium brown. I decided I wanted my blonde hair back and after months of trying to persuade my mum to let me dye it, she gave in when I was about 12 saying I could do it as long as I did it myself because she didn't want to be involved when I messed it up (such faith in me!).

That's where the next stage kicks in. The dye did work slightly despite not having much of an effect on my hair, meaning I was left with more of a highlight effect than a blonde dye which actually looked lovely! A lot of people have told me since that this was the hair colour they like best on me and I think if I were to dye it again it's likely I'd go for something along the lines of this, although I'd probably go for either highlights or ombre (think Zoella).
Unfortunately though, as anyone with fairly dark hair who has dyed it blonde will tell you, roots appear and fast. With blonde there's no hiding it either. After being lazy and leaving it for a few months I decided that as much as I loved my blonde hair I couldn't keep up with dying it every few weeks. I picked up another dye instead which, I thought, was a brown slightly darker than my natural colour with a hint of red in it. Long story short I was very wrong, it went very ginger and I dyed it again about a week later, meaning the only picture I have of it this colour is this one that I've had to awkwardly crop so please excuse that. To make matters even worse, the colour had taken really strongly on the blonde but not as much on my roots, meaning I was now left with a band of dye that did not look like it would budge.
I decided that the only way to get rid of the band of dye would be to have it dyed professionally and if I was doing that I would give in to the part of me that had been dying to have bright red hair for about a year. I went into the hair salon on a training day which I would totally recommend. It's exactly the same service for a fraction of the price because they need practice meaning I got my hair lightened (to get rid of the band of dye), a permanent bright red dye put on (we're talking brighter than Ariana Grande's when it was at it's brightest) and a semi permanent over the top to keep the colour slightly toned down for £40. I was told if I were to have that done without it being a training day it would have been closer to £200. Definitely worth it.

It looked amazing just after I'd had it dyed. I loved the bright red and it definitely suited me. Unfortunately, my family and I went on holiday to Florida about a week later and the sun bleached my hair like you wouldn't believe. Between the sun and the chlorine, within 2 weeks my hair was orange. And I mean bright orange. I actually wouldn't have minded the colour if the condition of it hadn't been so bad. Even though I oddly seemed to suit ginger in a bizarre way, I knew I couldn't leave it like that so I waited a good few weeks trying everything I could to get it healthier before dying it bright red. Again.
This time it lasted about a year with me re-dying it whenever it needed it. I used box dyes and never found one particular one that I loved. I flitted back and for between brands from the Live Colour XXL ones to the Garnier ones (by far the best in my opinion) and never really settled. Looking back on photos, it doesn't seem that any of them made a particular difference in terms of colour.

I absolutely loved my red hair but again, the condition of it became so bad I knew I couldn't keep it red. As anyone who's had any bright colours in their hair will tell you, it takes a lot of work. Some people suggest dying it every 6 weeks although I definitely didn't do that. I'd wait a while until the roots got to the point where I REALLY had to do something about and then do it but even then it was probably every other month. The worst part for me was that when my roots did come through, because of my natural colour being brown but not particularly dark they looked grey, so I was a 14 year old who looked like she was going grey, never a good look!

I decided that I needed to give my hair a break from dye otherwise I would be in serious risk of it falling out or snapping off, neither of which I wanted to happen! I put a deep brown dye over the red and decided I would leave it at that. Unfortunately, my hair had other ideas. As you can see here, even when I put a brown dye on my hair the red shone through a lot which was fine initially! It was quite nice to have my hair look slightly different colours in different lights and the brown made it look shiny and like it was in good condition even though it wasn't (my reason for preferring Garnier dye). The brown faded within a few months but the red underneath stuck like super glue. The photo above, which those of you who have seen some of my music things will recognise as the one I use for a lot of that, shows the way the different dyes stuck to my hair. It really was awful at that point. You can really see the different levels of colour in my hair from the very light, golden brown at the roots (the result of a brown dye clinging to my roots that had not been dyed before far more than the rest of my hair that had been dyed) through the dark, reddish brown and ending with the gingery-brown at the ends. After putting about 3 brown dyes over it, all of which needed two boxes of dye because my hair was so long by this point, I pretty much gave up. As the next photo shows, all the brown washed right off my hair but the red stuck and I decided there was no other choice but to let it grow out. It was a real pain for the first few months and I really had to resist dying it again but I'm so glad I persevered with it. By the time prom rolled around last year (2013 when I was 16) a lot of it had grown out and I had it put up so it actually looked nice with the different colours.

So here we are, it's been nearly 2 years since I last dyed my hair (if I remember rightly it was October 2012 I last dyed it brown) and I'm so glad I decided to leave it and not dye it any more. If I'd kept trying to dye it I'm sure I would've been dying it for the rest of my life and although I'd still love to do something to it I know the likelihood is I won't, purely because it's taken so long for it to grow out this far. My natural colour is now roughly down to my collar bone, meaning if I wanted to have all the dyed hair cut off so I can really start fresh I could and it probably won't be much longer until I do. For the moment, I like my ombred look that took no effort at all although the dyed hair is still in very bad condition and I'm definitely enjoying having my hair longer than it's ever been before.

Before I dyed my hair, everyone told me my hair would never be the same if I did and I brushed it off thinking the dye would fade or I could just dye it back to my natural colour and leave it but it really doesn't work that way at all. Take it from someone who knows, if you're thinking of dying your hair a colour that is drastically different from your natural colour, you'll probably never get your natural colour back without letting it grow out, and that is a painful process that requires a lot of patience. As I mentioned before, I'm probably going to have to cut all of the dyed hair off fairly soon as I've noticed it seems like all of it is split ends, and if it's not it's definitely so dry it splits very easily. I can't tell you how many hair masks and products and tips and tricks I've tried. Many of them help (I can do a blog post on what worked for me if you'd be interested, let me know in the comments) but none of them fix it. It can be even more of a pain if you're trying to grow your hair at the same time, so much so that I'm sure I'll give in and just go for the chop very soon.

So that's it! The story of my hair over the last 6-7 years complete with a word of warning about dying hair. I hoped you enjoyed this very long post (there was a lot to talk about!) and let me know if you've had any bad hair dyeing experiences in the comments below. Don't forget to let me know if you'd like that post on getting healthier hair and feel free to request any other posts about things you'd like to know more about!

Creamy Candy Bubble Bar from Lush

This is quite a bold statement to make, but I'm going to just put it out there. I think this may be my favourite scent from Lush. If not top, definitely in the top 5 (we all know how indecisive I am).

I've been picking this up and smelling it every time I've been in Lush in the last few weeks (that is more times than is probably healthy, especially for my bank balance) and it just smells gorgeous. It has a very sweet scent that is definitely not for everyone, but it is perfect for me.

A slight down side is that I did find you don't get anywhere near as many bubbles from this as you do from the likes of The Comforter and the bath water doesn't really change colour. That being said, the smell is 100% worth it in my opinion. Even just having it in my room was lovely, every time I walked past it I noticed how beautiful it smelled.

Despite not having enough bubbles to build a bubble mountain, there were still a good few there and they lasted a fairly long time, although again, not as long as The Comforter. As this is one of the smaller bubble bars, I break it into 2 and get 2 baths from it but you can use the whole thing in one go if you want a particularly bubbly bath.

I love the smell of this so much I went out and bought another one once I'd used half and I think it's going to be a default buy every time I run out of it!

Have you tried Creamy Candy? What did you think of it?

Laura Paige Nail Polish

I picked up this Laura Paige nail polish in 01 Aqua Blue last summer but for some unknown reason haven't tried it out until now. I usually go for a very plain colour but I was in the mood for something with a shiny, metallic look to it so gave it a go.

I was pleasantly surprised by this nail polish! I wasn't expecting much from it due to it being incredibly cheap but it's actually very good and I'd definitely try more from this brand! I've tried a few lipsticks and an eyeliner from the same brand and all of it has seemed to be pretty good so far. Obviously it's not as good as higher end brands but for a few pounds for a nail polish/lipstick etc it's pretty good and VERY affordable.

This nail polish went on very easily although it did need quite a few coats to be opaque, although I find that with most metallic nail polishes. Once it was on it lasted for a really long time with only a slightly bit of wear on my right hand from where I play guitar. The rest of the nails did not chip at all and only needed to be taken off when it started to grow out.

This brand of make up is available from The Co-op Pharmacy and online at makeup.uk.com. As it is a UK brand, I'm not sure that it's available outside of the UK. If you know of somewhere that stocks it in your country, feel free to leave a link in the comments for other people to see!

L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil

I've been on the hunt for a hair oil that isn't ridiculously expensive for a while now and I came across this one in boots. At £9.99 it's not exactly cheap but it's far from expensive for a hair oil, especially when you consider there's a lot more in this one than in some of the much more expensive ones. It's got coconut oil and sunflower seed oil in it as well as other things, both of which I've heard good things about when it comes to hair, so I thought why not try it out.

Usually I use this product on wet hair but if my hair feels like it needs a bit more love when it's dry I'll put some on then too. All it needs is for you to put a pump or two (as little as possible really to prevent putting too much in and making your hair look greasy) into your hands, rub them together and then apply it to your hair. I only use it on the bottom half of my hair as you shouldn't use it at your roots - all it will do is make your
hair look greasy!

The ends of my hair are fairly dry and damaged at the best of times due to it being bright red a few years ago. Although I've let the colour grow out and it now looks like ombre, the sun still damages it very easily which is why this product is great for me in the summer. Although it's not a life saving product, it definitely does the trick. After using it a few times I did notice a difference in my hair and I think on hair that's not as damaged as mine it would work a treat!

What is brilliant about this product is that because a little goes a long way, you really do get your money's worth. I've been using it for a good few weeks now and it's hardly gone down at all.

As I've not tried other hair oils I can't compare this to any others. It certainly seems to work and the price is definitely fair. It's definitely a cheaper alternative to some of the very expensive ones such as argan oil.

Do you have any recommendations for other hair oils? Leave them below and I might just try them out!

August Favourites

The last month has seen the re-vamp of this blog meaning I've been paying a little bit more attention to the products I've been using and what I have/haven't liked than I would normally. I probably won't share the months favourites with you every month because it would get a bit repetitive seeing as though I tend to stick to the products I love like glue. I don't actually buy new products very often either so it would be a bit of a waste of time to share with you exactly the same as the previous month! That being said, if there's new things I've been loving I'll definitely do little updates to let you know! So without further ado, here's my favourites from the month of August.

This month my love for Lush has grown even more which I hardly thought possible. I've got a couple of things to share with you from Lush today but top of my list has to be the Ultrabland Facial Cleanser that I talked about in my post last week. It's such a fantastic product and I can really see why people love it so much. Ultrabland is definitely going to be a staple of mine from now on. You can see why I loved it so much by reading last week's post here.

For my hair I've been loving R&B Hair Moisturiser from, you guessed it, Lush. I've got a post on this stuff coming soon but it really has been a life saver. I find it works best on my hair when it's dry so in the morning, after I've brushed through my hair, I just rub some of this between my fingers and then run it through my hair. It completely calms any frizz and encourages the slight natural curl in my hair which means my hair looks neat and tidy without me having to anything with it. If you have trouble with frizzy hair that's a little bit curly but not quite enough I'd definitely recommend this product. I absolutely love it!

I've also been loving the L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil for my hair. I tend to use this at night and I just run a tiny bit through the lengths and ends of my hair. I find it's great for keeping hair healthy and shiny which can be pretty difficult for me with my over dyed ends! This is the first hair oil I've tried so I'm not too sure how it compares to others but it's definitely a great product!

I tried out a new nail polish this month that's been sitting in my room for a while untouched. There's a review of it coming soon, don't worry, but I found it to be a lot better than I was expecting. It's from the super cheap Laura Paige brand that I found in The Co-Operative Pharmacy a while back that I've found to be really good so far! It's a beautiful, greeny blue, metalic colour and I found it lasted about a week without chipping! It's in the shade 01 Aqua Blue for anyone wondering.

Last but not least, I tried my first fresh face mask from Lush and absolutely loved it. I don't have a photo of this I'm afraid as I used it all up before I got a chance to! I tried The Sacred Truth (a recommendation from one of the employees there based on the fact I have dry skin) and I absolutely loved it. I'm not really one for face masks so I don't really know all that much about them but let me assure you, my skin felt incredible after using this. I'd definitely recommend it and I would've gone and re-purchased it if I wasn't so keen to try out some of their other ones.

So there's my favourite products from the last month. I hope you liked this post, let me know if you'd like to see more of this type of thing on here and let me know if you've tried any of these products and what you thought of them!

Ultrabland Facial Cleanser from Lush

Lush describe this as one of their 'cult products' and on the packaging it says it's 'the Lush founders' No 1 Desert Island Product' which, naturally, meant I had high expectations, but boy, did they deliver.

I came across this product while in store chatting to one of the lovely employees about face masks as she tested some of the back of my hand and she asked if I'd tried it. She tested it on the back of my hand and then gave me a sample pot and I think it's very telling that I went back to buy it about a week later. I also think it's telling that when I bought it, almost every single employee in the shop couldn't help but say 'is that Ultrabland? Oh my goodness I love it so much, you'll love it!'.

So what is Ultrabland? It's a very easy way of taking your make up off and cleansing your skin that is perfect if you're quite lazy with your skin (like me) but like to pretend you're not (like me). You get some of the product and put it all over your face, including eyes - this stuff even gets off water proof mascarra, and then wipe it off with a warm, damp cotton pad or flannel. It really is that simple.

I have quite dry skin and this is one of the only products I've ever found that doesn't leave my skin feeling tight after I've used it. Every night I notice how soft my skin feels when I take my make up off and there is no doubt in my mind it's all down to this bad boy. If I'm having a particularly lazy night I don't bother using anything other than this product, although I do usually use a bit of moisturiser afterwards just because I want to minimise how dry my skin is.

Another thing the packaging on this says is that if you have particularly problem skin, using nothing but Ultrabland for a month will sort it right out. I've not tried that but from my experience of the product I would not be surprised.

I can definitely see why this is a 'cult product' and it deserves all of the attention it gets. I think I might find it difficult to use a different make up remover ever again! Luckily this stuff isn't too expensive (£6.95 for 45g or £10.95 for 100g) and lasts for ages! The girls at Lush told me this product stays fresh for about 14 months and I honestly think it might take me that long to get through it!

Have you tried Ultrabland? Let me know what you thought in the comments! If you're in Lush any time soon don't be afraid to ask for a sample of this so you can see for yourself how fab it is!

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paints

I've never been a fan of Barry M nail polishes. They get a lot of hype online and I've never really understood why. I've owned 2 of their regular polishes for a while now and I've found both to be far too much effort to bother with as they took about 7 coats to be opaque and as someone who has very little patience, I just couldn't be bothered with it.

Keeping that in mind, I'm not entirely sure what prompted me to buy one of their Gelly Hi-Shine polishes but boy am I glad I did. A few months ago I purchased the pink one in the shade Dragon 314. The colour is a lovely, strong pink but it was the formulation of it that I fell in love with. These nail paints have a very opaque look although they do go on quite thick which I'm not bothered about at all if it means a good colour. The main thing I love about them is the fact that because they're designed to be similar to the gel finish you can get from nail salons, the finish is glossy without the need for a top coat and more importantly, they last for AGES without chipping. I'm talking like 2-3 weeks here. For me this is brilliant because I play guitar almost every day meaning my nails usually chip very quickly on my left hand but I've finally found a nail polish that doesn't!

Because I fell so in love with the pink I went out in search of a new red (it is no secret that red is my favourite colour and I was in desperate need of a red nail polish that was not old and gross). I found 'Blood Orange 405' which, despite the name, is most definitely red and while looking found the beautiful light blue which is the shade 'Huckleberry 414'. I don't think I've ever loved a nail colour as much as I love Huckleberry and I mean when my nails need re-painting I've been taking it off and repainting the same colour. It's beautiful and seems to look lovely with whatever colour outfit I'm wearing. Perfect!

I really can't recommend these nail polishes enough. The colour range is huge and I'm sure I'll be buying more at some point but most importantly, they're super affordable - £3.99 each! Definitely worth it if you ask me!

The Comforter Bubble Bar from Lush

As the name suggests, it would appear that this product is the comfort blanket for most 'lushies' out there, including myself. I remember trying it years ago (I mean many years, we're talking pre-teen years) and when I went to Lush for the first time in years a few months ago it was the product I gravitated towards.

There are so many reasons I love this product but I'll try and limit this post to just a few. First off, the smell. I'm completely hopeless at describing smells and you can read on the Lush website (link at the bottom of the post) what is in it and get a rough idea from that but just trust me on this one, it smells amazing.

Another reason I love this product is because it not only produces bubbles, and lots of them, but the it also turns the bath water pink. Who doesn't love pink bath water? The bubbles are super long lasting on this one too. I don't think I've ever been sat in the bath and all the bubbles have disappeared, no matter how long I spend reading!

One of the biggest reasons I love this though is definitely that it is by far the best value for money when it comes to bubble bars from Lush. I know what you're thinking, Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds and Brightside are exactly the same size and shape as The Comforter, meaning they're the same value for money but in my opinion, this one smells far nicer meaning it's way more worth the £4.50.

The Comforter doesn't need to be used all in one go and typically I manage to get somewhere between 4 and 6 baths out of each. Definitely worth £4.50!

Do you love The Comforter? Have you got any suggestions for bath products for me based on my love of this one? Let me know in the comments!

An Apology

Although I was aware when starting this blog I probably wouldn't be able to post things super regularly, I did have plans to post more than I did. Which is why I've decided to revisit it and try and make something of it that I'm actually proud of! As for the not posting for over a year, all I can say is sorry.

It's been a year since my last post so to fill you in quickly on what's happened in the life of Luce I started a new school where I'm far happier, became a semi-professional musician instead of it just being my hobby and have begun the process of applying to university, by which I mean I've stressed about what I want to study, where I want to go, what matters to me in choosing a university and much more. If you can think of something related to university, I've worried about it, probably in the last week. I'd give you a more detailed run down of everything that has happened in this last year but there are posts over of my other blog (click here) that pretty much explain everything.

So that's my little update for you with a quick update of what my face looks like these days in case any of you were curious. I  hope you're all well, don't forget to say hi in the comments! That's it from me for today, hopefully you'll hear from me soon!
